So there are quite a few Zelf characters now, enough for us to have our own little Zelf armies! I feel like some Zelfs get overlooked sometimes. Like some of them are kinda blah, not as good as the others, and I don't pay much attention to them. And then I'll be just looking at my Zelf display and I'll think 'Wow, this character really does have something neat about them!' when I notice something small and cute. I thought this could be a fun game for us!  Rule 1: Grab a Zelf from your collection at random--no looking! Rule 2: Look at your Zelf and really take a moment to notice all the little details Moose put into this character. Rule 3: Then make a report for the fans in this thread! Side Rule: If you grab a Zelf someone has already reported on, you can choose again OR do your report and give your own opinions on that Zelf.  The Zelf I grabbed was: FrostetteThe first thing fans talk about Frostette is her bi-colored eyes, since she's the first Zelf to have them intentionally. (There is a photo of a factory error Garny that a collector bought who has one green eye and one yellow eye, but Frostette is the first one done on purpose! lol). I think her eyes are really cute and I hope we get more bi-colored eyed Zelfs in the future (but I don't want them to be too common, since then they won't be as special!) Her color scheme is okay. White, dark pink, and light pink make sense for frosting. I think white, pale pink, and pale blue might have been good too. Likewise her hair combo of dark-and-light-pink I found to be just okay. Throwing in some light blue (or green like her sprinkles) would have been more interesting. My favorite thing about her other than her eye color is her ADORABLE little frosting horns. I LOVE THEM! They are so cute! And I like how they were painted, with white and pale pink stripes. The choice to have both the right arm and right leg colored dark pink with swirls looks a little jarring to me. (I found it strange on Jewley too.) It might have looked a little better if they had balanced it out by making the right leg and left arm, or visa versa, instead of both on one side of the body. Her markings are very cute. I love the big cupcake on her belly, and the little sprinkles on her left arm and leg. And of course a few sprinkles on her butt too, next to the trademark Z! I think the sprinkles could have been more colors instead of just dark pink and green. They could have thrown in purple too, like her belly marking. All in all, she's a very cute Zelf with some standard colors but I do like her a lot! Next person? |

I grabbed Birchy!
This whole thing might be biased because Birchy is underloved but one of my all-time favorites.
On a holistic look, his soft green-mint color is to die for- it's like a pastel avocado and isn't used nearly enough in toy colors! That fact alone keeps me looking at him several times a day! It pairs so incredibly well with his amber-orange eyes.Honestly, someone at Moose was having a really excellent day when they designed this guy and I hope they got a promotion or raise or something for making a truly unique and GORGEOUS color combination. That's not even mentioning the head of lush, kelly green hair!
What many people love about Birchy are his satyr horns, and yes, they are truly fantastic. Again, you can see it took real thought, and even a little bit of research to make this guy, to combine his wood nymph persona with satyr/Pan-like qualities. To date, no other zelf has little horns like this but I hope they use them more in the future to make more nature-nymphs!
Birchy's legs seem to represent a tree trunk- complete with the swirls you would see in tree-knots! The contrast of brown to mint green remind me of mint chocolate ice cream, but also do a nice job of simplifying the tree look. From his trunk/'soil' legs, a tree design emerges, full of roots and swirling branches that add a wonderfully tiny level of detail. And the little leaves on the tree match the color of his hair- matching up tiny detail colors like that is SO important and overlooked in aesthetics. But Moose has nailed it on many zelfs!
Birchy doesn't have much of a back design, but it doesn't matter, since he was on the earlier side of things. Overall, he's a beautiful zelf and honestly if I had to pick one zelf to keep above the others, it would probably be him. I'm glad I got him on a random pick!

So I delved into my Zelf box and pulled out..... DandyLion!
The first thing you notice about him is his colour, a nice shade of yellow (banana yellow I call it!) He's the first yellow Zelf, apart from Elfa who's more a yellowy-green, I love the fact that they've contrasted the yellow with brown, the colours you kind of associate with real lions! The brown they have for his hair, goes well with the yellow, its like a caramelly brown.
His hair also has a streak of orange at the front, which matches the oranges curl on his forehead and the orange ruff around his neck, such a cute detail! He also has orange sideburns which I'd never noticed until now as well!
He has a light yellow patch on his tummy, and a cute little lion motif on his left leg with a brown star! Awwwwww! My particular DandyLion seems to have a lot of hair, so I fluff it up to make it more 'mane' like too. Despite Lions being growly and aggressive, Dandy Lion has a dopey grin like expression on his face which is adorable! His ears are just the right size, and his eyes are blue/grey which suit him.
His tail is great too, a plastic yellow tail with a brown end, which I almost wish was hair like instead of plastic! Oh and did I forget to mention DandyLion only has frickin' wings! A Lion with wings! Who thought of that??? Whoever you are, I applaud you as the wings just add to his charm! White feathery wings and a cute yellow/brown/orange combo Zelf! Ahhhhhh! And what about that little white tooth? How didn't I notice that before either!
Its weird, but when you really look at the Zelfs closely enough, you do appreciate them more! DandyLion isn't one of my favourites of Series 2, nor is he in my least fave catergory. I always saw him as a middley type. One I never took much notice of before. I don't know if he's one of YOUR favourites but he certainly is charming and a good one for your collection! I'd rate him a 7 1/2 out of 10!

It's good to see Dandy getting more love! I was shocked that he wasn't as big a seller because all of those details you mentioned really make him stand out for me. I LOVE that he has a harelip to make him look more feline, and the wings are such a cool addition! His eyes are -beautiful-.. they could have easily gone with green and that would've been pretty, but I think the pale blue is really striking.
Birchy is just amazing overall. I love that his legs are made of wood! And it's always great to see gentler, nurturing male characters.

I grabbed: FloatThe first thing I notice about Float is her beautiful doe-eyed expression and her candy floss (or cotton candy to you Americans  ) colour scheme. She's also one of the first zelfs to have an open smile which matches her perfectly. She is a soft pink with droopy ears (my favourite!) and all her limbs have this almost dip-dyed effect in a soft complimentary blue. There's also a splash of soft blue on her forehead which matches her soft blue eyes. Something you don't noticed about her straight away are that her eyebrows are actually cloud shaped which is a very cute detail. Her hair is ombre and in another shade of soft pink -slightly darker than her body colour- with some white. On her front, she has a soft blue cloud overlapping a darker pink cloud to make it stand out against her body. On her back there aren't really any additional markings as she has these gorgeous, big, glittery and transparent butterfly wings (same mold as Miss Clovers I think?) that have little swirled details in them and a pale blue cloud in the center of them - which her brother Ty Foon also has on his. Very cute and her Z butt mark is a darker pink - the same shade of the pink cloud on her tummy. I absolutely adore her soft colour palette and she's easily up there with my favourite zelfs. A definite must in any zelf collection. |

Awesome thread. I picked one at random and it was Masquerade Spellinda. Not one of my favorites! Basically, I only got her because last month I went to a new Toys R Us I've never been to before. My usual TRU was always sold out of the mediums, so I thought I'd try another TRU farther from my house. They were ALSO almost sold out of mediums, but they had three of the Masquerades left (as well as an army of Series 1 large Zelfs). I adopted Masque Spellinda and Mermalade. Spell's markings are so striking that she definitely stands out in my collection. In comparison to 1st edition Spellinda, her hair is patterned differently (but in the same colors) and the markings are different on her entire body. 1st ed. Spellinda has a black cat on her left leg and rather sparse markings (stencils, that is). Masquerade Spellinda has a big black cat on her belly, in addition to the eye mask. I noticed the insides of her ears are yellow, whereas original Spellinda has purple inside her ears. The body color and face sculpts are the same. I absolutely LOVE this head sculpt! I love the big, droopy ears and that grin. I thought it was kind of interesting that they varied the hair. The hair on the Masquerade doll is black on the left and purple on the right. On the 1st edition Spellinda, it's black-purple-black. |

Okay, lets keep this thread going peeps!, I just picked out of my Zelf box - Pega Sue! The first thing you notice right away is the awesome Rainbow coloured hair! It has shades of yellow, neon green, dark pink, magenta and a very pale blue, although it seems like there are more colours there, the stripes are thin and close together which makes it all blend into a rainbow, and as the only one in Series 1 to have such colourful hair, she does stand out from the rest! Her skin is a pale rose pink, with dark pink in her ears. Her eyes are amber/orange coloured and she has a pink star next to her eye which is cute! She also has darker pink cheeks with upturned ears sort of like a bat. I think going with a pegasus was a cool idea, I love the mythological style Zelfs. Her symbols are a white horseshoe with a rainbow flowing through it, along with yellow, purple and blue stars and she also has a yellow sun on her leg (which i'd never noticed before) She has a blue star and Z on her butt also! Her wings are translucent pink with glitter, which compliment her well. One of the better style wings. She is definitely feminine looking, and being pink, was certainly not one of my favourites of the first series, and was the last one I got of the Series 1 Zelfs, she was harder to find so maybe she is quite popular!?! I do however, quite like her, she seems to me to be the 'big sister' of the group. Not young and immature, or zany and feisty. She seems cool, calm and collected and is classed as the brainy one, who knows the answers to everything. She's a good role model, a brainy book-worm type. (How cool it would be if she had come with glasses?) I hope there will be more rainbow coloured Zelfs in the future. (I kinda wish they had made Teeny Genie a different colour, as she is way too similar) I think blue, yellow, or purple would compliment well. I'd also like to know who lives in the next stables to her, as there is a pink, blue and purple horseshoe on the doors, so there must be some future horse-related Zelfs out there to come. (In my headcannon, the centaur Zelf I created lives in the purple door) What do you think of Pegasue? Is she one of your faves??? |

I'm doing a double today, and the next entrant out of the box is .... Chocolaa!
Erm, where do I start? Well for one thing he is the only brown Zelf to date!! He is a lovely milky chocolate colour, with darker brown in his scraggly upturned ears (do any of the other zelfs have the same kind of ears?) and darker brown 'dripping effect' colouring on his feet and forehead. It looks like he has just jumped out of his adorable chocolate fountain and the chocolate is running down his head and down his legs.
He had a small smile on his face, and a little pout like he saying, oooooooh! chocolate! Haha. He has pink eyes which match his cotton candy pink stripe in his hair, which in turn goes rather well with the brown caramel of his hair. His symbols are a chocolate heart on his chest, with light brown squares and a pink squiggle underneath. On the backs of his arms are more pink squiggles, and next to his Z mark are two brown chocolate squares.
He is my favourite of the Zelicious range, and as a big fan of chocolate in general, he smells quite nice, not too overpowering like some Zelfs who shall remain nameless! He is absolutely delightful, and with his little choc fountain, is kinda like a laid back surfer dude! Two thumbs up from me!!!

Been a while since I reviewed a zelf so looks like I'll be reviewing.... <b>Marsha</b>! Marsha is an absolutely lovely zelf. She's this lovely turquoisey colour with the droopy ear mold and covered in glitter. She has purple spots over one eye and pink spots over her other eye which is a theme that she keeps all through her design. One inner ear is pink and the other is purple. One foot is purple and the other is pink. The pink and purple continues on her tummy with a little purple space ship and pink detailing. There's also more dots and hearts in pink and purple which just really adds to her tummy. Her hair is... you guessed it purple, with pink streaks either side and she has the most adorable heart shaped antennae in pink! The first think I notice when I look at her is her adorable face with the droopy ears and adorable antenne but also how well the pink and purple hair and detailing really compliments her. She's easily my favourite large zelf though it would be nice if she came in Medium size. She's just a very, very lovely design and I would recommend her to ANYONE. (Even Non zelf collecters xD) |
