So, the other day I moved a couple of my mother's Zelfs (she has them at work). The first had fallen over on the Venus Flytrap salon, who knows how long ago. I went to move her... and she stuck. Then she came lose with a sound pop, and there was a tiny paint chip missing off the green paint of the salon. I moved the other one that was sitting there just as long ... same thing. And BOTH had paint stuck to them. Tonight I went to put my Zelicious Vampula. She's been in her basket since I got her, so months. She stuck. When I pulled her loose, she had red on her bum, and the edges of both feet... and there's a clear melty spot inside her basket where one of her feet was touching more than the other BEWARE. I'm hoping a coat of Dull Cote or another sealant could fix this, but I seriously have no idea. And it only seems to happen with the painted plastics so far - the green on the salon, the red of the basket. Anything made of the molded colored plastic so far as been fine.

Hey Rainsong, I'm Mothra Stewart over at the MH Arena! I'm so sorry to hear this happened to your playset and your Zelfs thanks so much for the warning, I'll be sure to line the inside of my Vampula's basket with something to keep her from getting damaged while inside of it. I hope your damaged stuff can be fixed or replaced!

Is it actually the plastic melting or could it just be the paint that isn't cured properly?

Oh, no! I've been displaying my Zelicious Strawberry Vampula in her basket. I just looked at her, and there is a tiny spot of paint missing from the underside of one foot. There's a tiny spot on the bottom of the basket that looks like it's the exact spot where that foot was, so I suspect the contact between the foot and the basket affected both. I can't tell whether the spot on the inside of the basket is melted paint, or whatever. It's hard to tell. This is awful. I think I want to throw away that strawberry basket now.
I also had another Zelf sitting on Zelicious Berry Buttershy's chair, and both the Zelf and the chair are fine. No missing or melted paint there.
EDIT: I wouldn't use sealants unless you were VERY sure they wouldn't yellow over time. Some sealants/finishes can yellow after a few years.

Oh sorry to hear this Rainsong and I hope you manage to sort it??? I keep the play-pieces in a box and just stand the Zelfs on my bookcase, do you think it was sun-damage causing the plastic to melt??? Thanks for the heads-up though! :s

In my case, my Zelfs aren't ever exposed to the sun, just a moderate amount of indoor lighting. ... It's not even bright indoor lighting. It doesn't seem to be caused by sun exposure.
Really weird, huh?

Tamiya and Mr. Super Clear are popular sealants in the doll world because they don't yellow. Oh sorry to hear this Rainsong and I hope you manage to sort it??? I keep the play-pieces in a box and just stand the Zelfs on my bookcase, do you think it was sun-damage causing the plastic to melt??? Thanks for the heads-up though! :s I don't think the plastic is actually melting. I think it's just whatever paint Moose is using and the plastic under the paint is fine.

Yeah, I've heard that Mr. Super Clear is top-of-the-line quality. The Junky Spot in California sells it www.junkyspot.com/obindex.html. I didn't know about the Tamiya brand.

Is it actually the plastic melting or could it just be the paint that isn't cured properly? On my Strawberry Vampula, there was not just paint missing - there was a clearly melted looking small divot in the spot where most of her weight had been on one foot. However on all the rest of them it was merely paint transference. Even the rest of Vampula's was only transference. I'll look again later, and if I can remember/manage/not flake out like I do, I'll see if I can get pics. VIOLET - That's a large part of why I just don't know which to use, if any. I think Pullips get plastic melt even with sealant, but could be wrong? I've used MSC on MH dolls But I don't actually have any at this time. I might swing into TRU and pick up an extra Vampula - I could test the Testors on her basket, if nothing else?? CATSBY - Nope, in both sets (mine and my mither's) they've never been in the sun. One set (my mother's) has actually been kept in an office, so doesn't even get extreme temperature fluctuations. My Vampula was up high on a shelf in my bedroom, so it was exposed to worse temp changes. She was on top the Salon, though, and I don't think there was any issue with her basket and the Salon's paint together, thankfully! Howlette/Mothra- HIIIII!!!! as to sorting it out - I can probably replace Vampula if I decide to. The other two are my mother's, and I'm not sure how much she cares - I can't remember which they were, either. She has a lot of hers on her play sets, though ... which sorta worries me. She knows though - she was right there when it happened, since I was talking to her at the time and just happened to reach down to set Tressa back upright.

I'm glad that I read this thread! My Tressa is displayed on top of her salon, and when I checked her today to see if she was okay, some of the paint came off from the bottom of one of her feet. It was only a little bit, but I'm glad that I caught it before it got much worse. I also checked Chocolaa, since I always display her with her fountain, but she seemed fine. I've yet to check the minis that are displayed in Vampula's basket and Spellinda's wheelbarrow. Hopefully, they are okay, too.

I don't know if Chocolaa's stand has paint on it... I don't have that one.
