After the closure of Junction Point Studios (Epic Mickey), I'm always a little wary of companies abandoning their IPs in favor of the most popular ones. Even if the other brand still brings in the cash in this case.

So the representative from Moose said Zelfs weren't at New York Toy Fair because they're being carried exclusively by Toys R Us in the United States. (Which is what we suspected on another thread here on the forum.) Then the blogger mentioned a rumor about Zelfs being discontinued, and the Moose rep said no, she didn't think they were being discontinued. The thing is, every single year since the Zelfs first began, people have been spreading rumors that Zelfs were going to be discontinued. But we're on Series 4 now, so every single year those rumors have been wrong (so far). I wouldn't believe rumors like that unless I got them from a reputable source. Right now, Moose is saying they'll still be making Zelfs for a while, so I'd believe Moose. Thanks for posting the link. It was interesting reading.  |

This is the first time I've heard an actual rumor - All the other rumors I've heard have been peeps in the US fretting over their future because they weren't stocking them well (which I can understand)  Either way, I do like Shopkins, but there's no way I prefer them to Zelfs |

I hope it's just a rumor, Zelfs sell so well from what I see in stores around me! Plus, I just got into collecting last November :/ I'd hate for the ride to be over already. I wanna see this crystal themed line of Zelfs, dagnabbit >.< are there any more toy fairs this year?

I would guess it's because Shopkins have a lot more impulse buys than Zelfs do. There's also a lot more adult fans of Zelfs compared to Shopkins, and so many younger kids who aren't old enough to use Facebook probably collect and trade them at school, etc.
Kinda like Skylanders - It's beaten records, but the Facebook page still isn't as popular as many other games that don't sell as well, likely because Skylanders attracts a younger generation not yet online.
