What is that draws you to Zelfs? Do you buy certain ones for reasons too, or are you a completist? I'm curious!

Well, MLP wasn't giving me any new characters for like the 10th year in a row. Don't get me wrong I love Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie but I get tired of staring at their same toys over and over again.
So, when Zelfs first came out, I don't even remember how I found out about them, probably the MLParena haha!
Anyways when we went looking for them the first time it was when they first came out in the US and they had a BOGO deal at ToysRUs well we couldn't find any mediums so we came home with the ColorMeZelf and it was my nieces favorite! Luckily we found our first 6 at Walmart!
Then I remember I was honestly just looking for a Miss Clover and I drove out to the ToysRUs across the bridge from us, and was a pesky customer and asked if they could pull anything from the back in hopes of finding her I didn't find her but I found the remaining six from series1 and thought heck I'll just get them all. Partially because I felt bad because it was almost closing instead of being like "Oh thanks for doing that I'm not buying any have fun putting them back after you signed them out!" Then we were a pesky customer at our TRU and asked them to pull some from the back..and we found Jewely! Then it was a downward spiral from there.
I thought they'd just be a cute addition to our MLP collection...and then they took over. Then, we though they'd make great pets for MH...then when Zelfs were on hiatus we racked up MH dolls..really quit weird actually.
But we love the Zelfs, not as much as our little ponies but they're a great addition to our family!

I'm drawn to their cute faces. I love the expressive eyes! I like most of the ear types with the exception of a few. Big droopy ears like Garny, Vampula, Spellinda and Flitter have are my favorites.
Thank goodness I don't feel the need to be a completist, or I'd be broke. LOL!

Galexia: I understand! I used to collect ponies heavily but sold pretty much my entire collection off a while back. I don't regret it, as collecting the second (/third?!) time round can be really fun, but I definitely see your point. I'm surprised there aren't more new characters being released what with Friendship is Magic being out, but, I guess that's what the blind bag figures are for. As for Zelfs - strangely, I got mine for a similar reason! Birchy was my first. A friend convinced me to get him as she was a big fan of the series already, and I thought he was adorable. So, I got him as a decoration/companion for my pet frog (Birchy stays outside the tank, don't worry XD). Then I got some more to be 'pets' for some of my Monster High custom dolls, but ended up falling in love with them completely and now they're my current fave toy to collect! Violet: I love the eyes too! They have such cheerful faces, they're really unique. I'm with you on the ears too, the droopy ones are adorable! I'm not a completist either (for any of my collections) - would be WAY too expensive!

I know, right? I stopped buying MLP brushable ponies a long time ago. Nobody needs 17 different Apple Jacks, you know? I think the company forgot why people liked My Little Pony toys in the first place.

I'm afraid I'm a completist! :S Haha. It all started when I saw a couple of them in the shops, and I bought a Purple one (Garny) because I loved the colours and the dark fairy thing. (I had only intended to get 1 at this point. Honest!) I looked them up online, saw that they were the new 'trolls', and bought another (Spellinda) becoz of my bestie and I (she loves turquoise and I love purple) and we both love magic, and fantasy and witchy stuff and adventures etc etc, and then when I opened the leaflet I wanted a couple more so got a few more, then a few more. Then I had all of Series 1, and Series 2 came out, and I got a few more, then a few more and now I can't stop!!! By the time I had all of S1 and 2, I was looking more online (mainly for spoilers/info about Zelfs and came across the forum, and fell even more for them!!! Now my daily life revolves around spending a couple of hours a day (unless I'm really busy) devoted to Zelfs (mostly online now!) I do truly love coming on here, most days because of our shared love for Zelfs and this forum is the nicest, friendliest place ever!!!

Violet: it could also be because they're catering just for the new market with FIM or Equestia Girls, when there's still a massive amount of fans out there who would love some new G1 style merch. I know I would Catsby: Nothing wrong with being a completist at all! It's not for me, but I think it's pretty cool that yourself & others would wanna grab them all! I think I'm with you, actually, on why I got into them too. I definitely love fantasy stuff, and the 'adventure' side to Zelfs is very cute too. Agreed also on this forum - I can't get enough (although sometimes I feel I kill threads because I get too excited & keep replying to everything!)

I love fantasy-themed stuff, too. I was also a big fan of the artist Brian Froud when I was a kid, and Zelfs are sort of like something he would have come up with. (If you don't know who he is, please do a Google search for his name. You'll see a lot of very amazing artwork!)

Brian Froud is amazing, agreed. They really do seem like something he'd have done, I've never really thought about that!

Since MLP were just constantly recycling out the same ponies, I just wanted something... Different. I saw Zelfs and I was intrigued, but I knew I couldn't afford yet another collection. After telling my mother about them, she got me a Mermalade as a gift, and also Lil' D for a present at a later date. I love their faces, and the variety of colors (I love green, and MLP just never seem to release green ponies for instance) and the variety of different moulds in later series. And then I just kinda... Fell in love with them, I guess!

My daughter discovered them and we got a Lunanne. Then a Spellinda, then a Vampula. My daughter was in love right away, so I looked them up online and we learned about Zardenia and saw the cartoons on youtube. After that my collectors gene kicked in and we got all of series 1 rather quickly. Series 2 came out and wow! there was Jewely smiling at us from the shelves (I'd kind of given up on getting rares right from the start because distribution-wise our country is often somewhat of a backwater) but there she was and zelfs became even more fun. Then we found this forum and happily saw that we were not the only ones loving the little cuties. At first the zelfs were mainly my daughters, but after a while I started my own collection. So now I sometimes feel our house is a mini-Zardenia I think a lot about them make them highly collectible; happy colours, different moulds ( a nice change from the old good luck trolls), nice artwork and packaging, a developed back story, and the hard to get ones fire up the hunter-collector (at least it does for me ).

I was just on ebay one day looking for trolls and then one of the listing was a zelf. IT immediately caught my attention when I saw how cute it was. It's like a little elf troll! I ended up googling about them to see more pictures and I got hooked. I thought that for such an affordable toy, they are made so well and the details were on point. My first zelf purchase was Spellinda and Vampula, I love them! But it was Clover that really made me fall in love with Zelfs. I'm not a completist, I try to only buy the ones I like.. However, I do get tempted to buy more each time I stop by the stores.

Probably discovered them thanks to the MLPArena. I really like that they have "powers", they remind me of my lucky witchies collection. I'm not a completionist because I don't have money to afford a complete collection, so I only grab my favorites from each season. Currently owning Spellinda, Garny, Birchy and Elfa, plus a bunch of Lils

I always had a thing with magical creatures, especially pixie like ones. I first didn't like them but later on I started to love them. So I went to the store and bought my first zelf (Flamy) . I liked him but I still wasn't sure if I wanted more. One day I went toy hunting and found 4 more. I realized they were a keeper! Now I own almost every zelf from zeries 1 (but Angelala ) 1 big zelf (Noodles) and 2 zelfs from playsets. (Tressa and Ribitta) Ps. Could there be a topic about zelfs playsets? That would be fun

I think it was probably Flickr that got me into them. xD I'd seen some pictures on there and in the Argos catalog of series 1 and whilst I thought they were cute, I didn't get any.... until I saw pictures of series 2 and knew I had to get Birchy and Snap Jack. Ofcourse this was during the 2nd wave of them so I was pretty late to the party already. Anyway I gave series 1 another look and decided there was quite a few that I wanted and thought I was lucky when I found Lunanne and Pega Sue in Argos. Managed to find most of the one's I wanted but I'm still missing Angelala and Miss Clover sadly and Lochlan and Kitsu from series 2. ^^;

I don't remember where I saw the name first mentioned, but when I saw the promo photos of them all, I fell in love. I ended up importing Garny, Flamy and Elfa from the UK and that started it all. I love their faces and that they take risks with designs that pretty much only Monster High does otherwise. You don't often see black or red toys in the "girls'" aisle, sadly, and that's something that seriously needs to change. (I mean, I always wanted a red MLP when I was a kid and they only used red for hair. Now we have Big Mac, but still barely any toys of him.) I'm also a sucker for small, cute, poseable toys. They remind me of my 80s childhood.

I was first drawn to the Zelfs because they reminded me of the troll dolls. I collected the treasure trolls when I was little. I first heard of the Zelfs on MLParena forums form a post made there and I had forgot about them for a while until I saw them in TRU one day. ^^
I base buying a Zelf off my favorite color, type of zelf, or the power they possess. Garny is purple which I love ALL purple colors, she is a fairy type, which I ubberly love Fairies. And her power is awesomeness, which of course everyone knows I'm rad. =p So it made sense she was my very first Zelf. Only thing I didn't like was her dark side and the spider. >> Love her though.
Pink is actually my least favorite color but somehow I have ended up liking all the pink Zelfs. I think it's due to the fact that they're all glitter and I love glitter! ^^
